Internal poll: Alan Grayson jumps out to 13-point lead
In the first post-primary poll conducted in FL-8, Congressman Alan Grayson enjoys a 13-point lead. (Check out Michael Hussey’s take on this poll here.) The results are:

Perhaps the most surprising result is the strong support enjoyed by third-party candidates. Apart from Grayson, the Democrat, and Webster, the Republican, three other candidates have met Florida’s ballot qualification requirements for the November election. The others are drawing a remarkable 32% of the Republican vote, and 30% of the Independent vote (but only 9% of the Democratic vote).
“It looks like the people who voted for Todd Long, Patricia Sullivan and Kurt Kelly in August will be voting for George Metcalfe, Peg Dunmire and write-in Steve Gerritzen in November,” said Sam Drzymala, a Grayson spokesman. “Probably because they don’t want Daniel Webster’s Social Security cuts and higher tolls. If 60% of the Republicans voted against Webster in the primary, where are his votes going to come from?”
Other revelations from the poll include the facts that Grayson has a dramatic lead of 41% to 9% among Independent voters, a striking margin of 60% to 13% among voters under 35, and an enormous advantage of 84% to 5% among African-Americans. “Webster is toast,” said Drzymala.
These poll results correspond closely to a Grayson poll in June. That poll showed Grayson with an average 14-point margin over his opponents.
The sole questions in the poll were the “horse race” question, party registration, age, gender and ethnicity. Public Policy Polling, of Raleigh, NC, conducted the poll. It was an automated telephone survey of 1589 registered voters in FL-8. The margin of error is 2.4%. [1] Totals add to 101% due to rounding.
