Tampa City Council candidate Kelly Benjamin qualifies by petition
Today, the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections office validated a portion of the over 1000 petition signatures needed to nominate my name to appear on the ballot for the Tampa City Council, District 6. In all, I turned in over 115% of the required number of nominating petitions and am the only candidate in the district 6 race to qualify via this method. Anyone deciding to run at this point will resort to buying their way on the ballot.
I could not have done this without the hard work and selfless dedication of several residents in District 6 who envision a new future and improved representation on the Tampa City Council. I’m humbled by this showing of grassroots support and energized to get to work on the multitude of issues facing this city.
First on my list is implementing a community led plan to strengthen our local economy and quality of life by supporting small business, revitalizing urban corridors in our neighborhoods, and developing community with one particular emphasis: keeping it local:–as the salient fact about our current predicament as a society is that things must become increasingly local to counter decades of unsustainable economic development that has led us to where we are today. We can’t guide our way out of a recession and towards a better future for this city by recycling the same tired politicians with the same stale ideas that got us into this mess. This campaign is about getting a fresh perspective and a new voice on the City Council that will treat the responsibility of City Council as a full time job. I look forward to getting to work!
