Check out the ranking of Florida’s Top 75+ Political Tweeters

Now that the Washington Post has released its list of the must-follow political Tweeters in Florida, what better time is there to publish a list of the top 75+ political Tweeters in Florida, based on their score on Klout.com, which increasingly seems to be the benchmark by which Twitter accounts are measured.

At the onset, let me say that I know that I am probably missing a lot of people, hence I describe the list as 75+, emphasis on plus.  If you believe someone belongs on this list, let me know and I will gladly add them.  Also, Klout.com can be a fickle beast, so don’t look too hard at someone’s Klout score.  Although Klout.com updates their scores daily, the number is completely relative and subject to change based on algorithms too complicated for me to understand.  In fact, when I first started compiling this list, my own score was in the 60s, but, obviously, it has dropped a few points since then.

I’ve also included politicians in the list, such as Jeb Bush, Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio, because I believe it’s important to show which politicians “get” online politics — and which ones don’t.  Also, I only included people who primarily discuss politics.  A lot of reporters and commentators have a Klout score high enough to make this list, but they talk about a lot of other topics.

At the top of the list (but disappointingly not on the Fix’s list) of Florida’s top political Tweeters is my online better-half, Joy Ann Reid, whose score is six points higher than the number 2 on the list, Republican consultant Rick Wilson.  Next is former Governor Jeb Bush, who is not as active as some other Tweeters, but is the EF Hutton of Florida politics: when he Tweets, people listen.  Sarah Rumpf is a surprising fourth on the list, while Progress Florida, Bill Nelson and myself round out the Top 5.

A couple of trends stand out to me.  First, the omission of many traditional media personalities who, despite having a Twitter account, are not active enough to earn a high enough Klout score.  Second, the list appears, at first glance, to be dominated by Republicans and conservatives.

Don’t look down on those names at the bottom of the list — there are literally thousands of people in Florida tweeting about politics, so to make this list says something.  Many, many, many folks who are on Twitter don’t even rate a Klout score.

Again, if you think you belong on this list, please let me know at saintpeter4@gmail.com.
