Allen West’s ‘statewide petition’: an admission of re-elect trouble?
Allen West likes his government job, and wants to keep it. But rather than go to his constituents in Palm Beach County, he finds himself turning to tea partiers far and wide, writes Joy Reid of the award-winning The Reid Report.
From the in-box, perhaps the first proof that West isn’t certain that even Republican-supervised redistricting will save him in 2012, when it won’t just be old, angry ‘baggers who go to the polls:
PETITION MAY BE SIGNED BY ANY FLORIDA REGISTERED VOTER
(Boca Raton, FL) The Allen West for Congress campaign today launched its petition drive and new campaign website for the reelection of Congressman Allen West to the United States House of Representatives in November 2012.
According to the Florida Department of State Division of Elections, because of planned redistricting, petition signatures may be obtained from any registered voter in the state of Florida, regardless of party affiliation or district boundaries.
In his first six months in office, Congressman West has made significant progress in fulfilling the promises he made during the campaign in 2010 to restore fiscal responsibility on Capitol Hill and remove the barriers to job growth.
“The voters in the 22nd Congressional District have given me the highest honor to represent them on Capitol Hill. Each and every day I take their concerns to the United States Congress as their representative dealing with the major issues our republic faces,” West stated. “The House of Representatives is the voice of the people of our great nation, but we are only just beginning to make progress. After all, it takes five miles to turn an aircraft carrier. We are beginning our petition drive for reelection today because, while we have accomplished a great deal in these last six months in office, it’s going to take time to reset the course of this great ship called the United States of America.”
Petition cards may be obtained at the Allen West for Congress campaign office at 2108 N. Federal Highway in Boca Raton, and may also be submitted online at the newly revamped campaign website (www.allenwestforcongress.com).
West already has two Democratic challengers, longtime pol Lois Frankel, the former mayor of West Palm Beach, and fresh faced newcomer Patrick Murphy. District 22 may also face some reshaping after redistricting, and West probably can’t be saved by Republican gerrymander tricks, given the passage of the Fair Districts amendments which force geographical, rather than partisan redistricting. So I guess you could say West is a candidate in search of a tea party district. And he’s looking for the kind of support statewide that he probably can’t count on in a district with so many elderly people … given the fact that he, along with 234 of his friends in the House and 40 in the Senate, voted to end Medicare.
Tick-tock…

All candidates can take signatures from all residents. Why does that indicate West is concerned about reelection? The House did not vote to end Medicare. Unless something is done to reform it, there will BE NO Medicare by 2022. The Democrat’s inaction guarantees Medicare will end. Under the Ryan plan, Medicare is UNCHANGED for everyone over 55, and phases in changes for those younger.
This doesn’t get more pathetic than this. First of all, Florida Law allows that one may qualify for office by paying a qualifying fee or by collecting signed petitions. Congressman West will get more than enough petitions so why would he spend any $$$ to pay the fee when he can do it for free? Seriously, you guys cannot be more clueless. Or it’s just subjective spinning, trying to portray Congressman West as not being popular in CD22. Either way, major failure and bonehead behavior from you. And what is to be expected.
Please take the time to resesarch what Paul Ryan is presenting, and it does not effect anyone 55 or over in age. The plan is the same as they have in Congress. No one wants to loose but one must have the intelligence to see our financial situatio in this country. Why doesn’t someone in the media ask Obama what he did with the $500 billion he TOOK from medicare?
Allen West is a true American, he does not listen only to the TEA party, (he has his own mind and can make his own decisions) although the TEA party has some serious issues that Congressman agrees with like fiscal responsibility, Constitutional conservatism, he understands what our foundling fathers set forth in the GREAT nation and he wants to allow us to keep our Freedome which is being eroded by the present administration. Our country is going bankrupt if not already bankrupt.
If we keep on the same road we are on with the Liberal Demoncrates and the RINO Republicans we will surely loose our freedom little by little. WAKE UP AMERICAN, STAND UP FOR FREEDOM
GOD BLESS AMERICA
Oh Please Peter! Spend a little of your “Tic-toc” researching something that at least resembles some truth. It would seem, time after time, your readers comprise of people like me looking for comic relief.
What are the chances that 2 separate conservative female commenters spell the word “lose” wrong on the same exact day?
