Rep. Kriseman proposing repeal of gag law blocking doctors from asking patients questions about gun safety
Representative Rick Kriseman (D-St. Petersburg) will hold a press conference to announce legislation that would repeal a controversial new law that blocks physicians and other medical providers from asking patients questions about gun safety.
The press conference announcing House Bill 4015, “Privacy of Firearm Owners,” will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 13th at the All Children’s Hospital Conference Center, located at 701 Fourth Street South, St. Petersburg, FL.
“For a Republican-led Legislature that claims to be for less government, less regulation and more personal freedoms, I found this bill to be particularly hypocritical and offensive. Politicians and their friends at the gun lobby have no business interfering with the doctor-patient relationship. I encourage my colleagues to reconsider their actions and repeal this ridiculous law,” stated State Rep. Rick Kriseman.
Doctors for America, a national movement of physicians and medical students working together to improve the health of the nation, has teamed up with Rep. Rick Kriseman to pass HB 4015.
Dr. Mona Mangat, the Southern Regional Director for Doctors for America, praised Rep. Rick Kriseman for filing the legislation to repeal the doctor “gag rule.”
“Over 200 physicians across Florida have signed a petition urging the Legislature to repeal the doctor “gag rule,” a law that prevents us from asking our patients questions about gun safety and providing them with information that would keep Floridians safe from injury or death from accidental gun shots. On behalf of doctors that urged the repeal of the law, we want to thank Representative Kriseman for hearing our voices to restore the doctor-patient relationship by introducing House Bill 4015.”
