Clearwater Beach has been selected Trip Advisor’s 2016 Best Beach in the United States beating out seven Hawaii beaches. The results are compiled from user reviews.

“The sugar fine white sand is a trademark of this fabulous beach. Perfect for a day in the sun. You might even spot a dolphin or two playing on the horizon,” one review read.

Many of the comments posted on Trip Advisor about Clearwater Beach include references to the soft, sugary white sand.

“Prettiest sand I’ve EVER seen, luxurious for barefoot walking,” one review read.

Lots of reviewers recommended Clearwater Beach for a good spot to take a stroll. Comments not only mentioned the soft white sand, they also were impressed by the length of the beach and suggested heading North if visitors are looking for a quiet stretch of sand to dig in their toes.

“Wow, what a great beach for walking. The town cleans the beach very early in the morning. Beach is wide, clean and you can walk a few miles. Good shell collecting. Pier 60 is great to watch sunsets from. Sometimes vendors set up tables on the pier, marked by very brightly colored umbrellas. At night, you may see street performers,” read another review.

The beach beat out Hawaii’s Lanikai Beach on Kailua, which came in second on the list. Florida had an impressive showing of beaches, in general, taking up 10 of the 25 spots. That’s more making the list than any other state, including Hawaii. And three of the top five beaches are in Florida.

Siesta Key to the region’s south came in third with St. Pete Beach following in fourth place. Pensacola Beach in the panhandle came in seventh followed by St. Augustine Beach and the Beach at Panama City in the number nine and 10 spots.

Other Florida beaches making the list include Henderson Beach State Park in Destin, Fort Myers Beach, Las Olas Beach in Fort Lauderdale, and Navarre Beach near Pensacola.

For the second year in a row, a West Coast Florida beach has been named at the top of the list. Last year Siesta Beach took that honor.

Clearwater also made the list of top beaches in the world at No. 20. It was the only Florida beach to make the list.
