Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer effectively was reelected to his post on Friday, after he drew no opposition as the deadline for political candidates to file to run for office expired.

Latimer, a Democrat, began working in the SOE”s office back in 2009 as chief of staff to the late Phyllis Busansky, who defeated Republican Buddy Johnson back in 2008Although he had hoped to be selected to replace her, then Governor Charlie Crist chose former Hillsborough County School Board superintendent Earl Lennard.

Latimer ran for the office in 2012, defeating Tom Scott in a Democratic primary,  before beating former Plant City Republican state legislator Rich Glorioso in November of that year.
