FSU Old School Club celebrates charitable giving this week with auction, golf tournament

in Top Headlines by

In a festive celebration of charity, Seminole Nation supporters will get a chance to play golf with legendary Florida State University Coach Bobby Bowden, or enjoy a one-week stay at Jimmy Buffet’s home in Key West.

FSU’s Old School Club Society Foundation is holding the fifth annual Napleton Infiniti Old School Open with three days of activities on September 10 through 13. The event kicks Thursday off with a wine dinner, charity auction and concert in downtown Tallahassee’s Kleman Plaza. Bowden is this year’s celebrity guest, and some of Tallahassee’s finest restaurants will cater the dinner.

The Old School Club is FSU’s most exclusive private organization devoted to a passion for all things Seminole. Located on campus less than a mile from Doak Campbell Stadium, Club members include Florida State Alumni, fans, and supporters.

“I’m honored to be a part of the 5th Annual Old School Golf Open this year,” Bowden said in a statement. “Adam Corey and his team work hard to give back and provide charitable efforts to the community, and I am happy to support.

“If you didn’t come out last year, don’t miss this year’s fun!” he added.

Old School Open is an annual charity golf tournament, to support philanthropic causes in the local community and throughout the state. Donating over $500,000 to 22 charities throughout the state, the Open is one of the highest-grossing annual golf tournaments in the region.

As title sponsor, Napleton Infiniti is holding the golf tournament at Southwood Golf Club, with an exclusive tailgate event at Old School Club after the FSU-USF football game.

“As I have only been in business for four years in the Tallahassee community, it has been a tremendous experience,” said Napleton Executive Projects Director Arwen Brunner. “The Society Foundation has truly welcomed my business and me into the community and allowed me to make a difference here in Tallahassee.”

Proceeds from the event, which includes live and silent auctions, will support a number of student scholarships, such as the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association (FRLA) Educational Foundation, Seminole Boosters and Florida State’s Dedman School of Hospitality.

Among the items up for auction:

  • Golf with Coach Bobby Bowden & Coach Mike Martin
  • Gary Player Experience – Round of Golf and dinner at Bears Club
  • One week at Casa Paraiso Costa Rica
  • A week at the Jimmy Buffet House in Key West
  • Warbird Fighter Plane flyover for the USF game
  • Napa Valley Experience with Dr. Mark Bonn – 2 couples 3day/2 nights

Tickets for the event are available at oldschoolopen.com.
