With Hurricane Irma aiming towards all of Florida this weekend, both the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) and the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) will be suspending public transit services this weekend. Hart is shutting down completely on Saturday and Sunday. PSTA says their last bus will go out at 5 P.M. on Saturday and tentatively will resume normal operations on Monday afternoon.

HART’s shutdown includes suspending the TECO Line Streetcar System.

Under the direction of the Hillsborough County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), The HART Emergency Evacuation Bus Routes will begin operation at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9. The nine routes serve four designated shelters in Hillsborough County:

  • Sgt. Smith Middle School, 14303 Citrus Pointe Drive in the Citrus Park area (Routes D and I)
  • Pizzo Elementary School, on Bull Run and Fowler in Tampa (Routes A, B, F, J)
  • Middleton High School on Osborne and 22nd Street in Tampa (Route E, G, H)
  • Shields Middle School, 15732 Beth Shields Way, Ruskin (Route H)

People who need transportation to these shelters can find their nearest Evacuation Bus Route on www.gohart.org or by calling the HARTinfo Line at (813) 254-HART (4278). A recorded message on service levels will be available as well.

PSTA’s shutdown includes all PSTA Bus and trolley routes; the Jolley Trolley; The Downtown Looper and DART (Care Ride).

Riders seeking an evacuation shelter can board a PSTA bus for free until service ends on Saturday. Buses on evacuation routes will stop at any safe location along the normal route to pick up a rider attempting to board.
