Democratic incumbent Janet Long is the clear winner when it comes to raising money for the race for the District 1 at-large seat on the Pinellas Commission.
Long reports she raised $8,700 last month, bringing her total to $74,018.
First-time candidate Hughes, a Republican who entered the race just last month, brought in $120. Of that, $20 comes out of his own pocket. The remaining $100 is a donation from Clearwater council member Bob Cundiff.
Hughes has said he campaigned for Cundiff and the two share the same address.
Long is running for her second term on the commission. Before her election to the board in 2012, she served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to 2010. She was a Seminole City Council member from 2002 to 2006 and was the deputy insurance commissioner for the Florida Department of Insurance from 1986 to 1998.
Hughes is a self-styled political consultant.
District 1 covers Seminole, portions of north Pinellas including East Lake and some beach communities. It is voted on countywide.
