Today, Democratic Senate candidate Jeff Greene met with community leaders from the Liberty City District of Miami to tour the economically distressed area and outline “The Jobs for Florida Plan” that will revitalize Florida’s economy and create good paying jobs for residents of the Sunshine State.
“After touring the Liberty City neighborhood, it’s clear that career politicians Kendrick Meek, Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio have failed to create jobs,” said Jeff Greene. “Families are struggling, Florida unemployment rate hovers at approximately 11 percent and these career politicians have failed to get the job done. I am the only candidate running for Senate who has a record of creating jobs, won’t take a penny from special interests and will always put Florida first.”
During his visit, Greene toured the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center which is an educational, performance, and visual arts facility that provides quality training for children and teens in performing, visual and media arts; develops its own resident companies; and supports community-based arts organizations.
“I offer voters a different choice. I’m running for U.S. Senate because I’m fed up and frustrated with what’s going on in Washington. We must end corruption once and for all and put the people first. I will never take a penny from any special interest and I will always put the people of Florida first.”
He also visited the Helping Hands Youth Center where he heard first-hand the concerns of the community and discussed “The Jobs for Florida Plan” that would help residents of Liberty City get back on their feet.
Jeff Greene’s “Jobs for Florida Plan” plan includes:
* Put construction workers who lost their jobs in the housing bust back to work insulating and weatherizing Florida’s homes
* Create a National Infrastructure Bank that builds highways, high-speed rail, brides and water projects across Florida
* Increase Pell Grants to expand access to college or vocational training for all Florida students and build a well-trained workforce that attracts jobs
* Expand lending through the Small Business Administration’s loan program to encourage more start-ups and enable small businesses to hire and train more workers
* Extend the Small Business Innovation Research program
* Declare a payroll tax holiday for new businesses and mom and pop outfits so they can invest in new jobs
* Extend unemployment insurance benefits to help out-of-work families get by in the tough economy
* Reduce health care costs and expand tax-exempt employee benefits for small businesses
