Florida’s main teacher union is asking the state Supreme Court to keep alive a legal challenge to the state’s largest private school voucher program.
The Florida Education Association on Wednesday appealed an August decision to throw out the lawsuit that the union and others had filed against a program used by more than 90,000 school children.
The 1st District Court of Appeal ruled that the union had no legal standing to challenge the program that is also known as the tax credit scholarship program.
The legal battle has been closely watched as supporters have mounted a public relations campaign to get the union and others to drop the lawsuit. The program has primarily served low-income families but the program is expanding to middle-income families this fall.
