Lizbeth Benacquisto to resume SD 30 re-election effort

Lizbeth Benacquisto, with the hallmark determination that made her one of Florida’s leading conservatives, is wasting no time moving ahead with her political career.

In a Twitter post on Thursday, the State Senate Majority Leader declared she would resume her re-election effort for Senate District 30.

“Serving SWFL is an honor & I look forward to resuming re-election effort after work in Tally ends,” she said in her Twitter feed.

Benacquisto finished second in the highly contentious special GOP primary for Florida’s 19th Congressional District, just behind the Tea Party-supported Curt Clawson.

On Wednesday, she returned to the Senate to a warm reception from her colleagues.

As for re-election efforts, Benacquisto — a staunch Ronald Reagan conservative — remains an extremely popular figure in her home base of Lee County. Although she was not successful on Tuesday, the CD 19 race may prove useful in her attempt to return to the Senate. The increased exposure will only help her in name recognition.

She has also proved to be an effective fundraiser as well, with nearly $521,000 to date in contributions and $185,438 in cash on hand.
