Miami pounds out 38-10 victory over Florida Atlantic

The Miami Hurricanes are 2-0 on the young season, but still await their first true test. Miami followed last week’s 70-3 romp over Florida A&M with a 38-10 win over the Florida Atlantic Owls on Saturday.

The Hurricanes set a school record with their 108 points in the first two games.

Saturday’s game was different from the FAMU game. In that one, junior quarterback Brad Kaaya threw for four touchdowns and had a 203 quarterback rating.

Against the Owls, Kaaya could never get into a rhythm. While he was 17 for 31 and 191 yards, he threw two interceptions and no touchdowns.

The Hurricanes pounded FAU with a punishing running game. Sophomore running back Mark Walton rushed for 155 yards and four touchdowns while junior Joseph Yearby had 121 yards and a rushing TD.

Miami amassed 279 rushing yards to only 47 for the Owls. One of the bright spots for FAU was receiver Kalib Woods, who hauled in 9 passes for 121 yards.

Florida Atlantic did have some other positive outcomes. They played on Miami’s side of the field on multiple occasions, but came up empty all too often. Their only touchdown came on a 38-yard scamper by Gregory Howell, Jr.

Miami travels to Boone, North Carolina to face the Appalachian State Mountaineers. Florida Atlantic, now 1-1, plays at Kansas State.
