Mike Hill drops first TV spot in SD 1 race

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

State Rep. Mike Hill is launching his first television ad this week, emphasizing his military background.

Hill, a Pensacola Beach insurance agent, is facing state Rep. Doug Broxson of Gulf Breeze in the Aug. 30 Republican primary for Senate District 1, which includes all of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties and a portion of Okaloosa.

“Service. Standing up for what you believe in. For your God, your nation and your family,” Hill says in the ad. “I’m a proud veteran of the Air Force and swore an oath to protect the rights endowed by our creator, defending the constitution.”

But the ad has a kicker: Not only is Hill a former U.S. Air Force captain, his son is now a Marine.

“Now that my son has followed in this tradition of service as a Marine, I’m even more proud,” Hill says, while the ad shows a picture of his son in his uniform staring through a rifle scope.

Brian Hughes, a consultant for the campaign, said the ad is planned for both cable and broadcast outlets and will be up in the next few days.
