Ohio State’s final play TD was a $100 million swing for bettors

Heading in to Saturday, Ohio State closed as a seven-point favorite over Northwestern, and this number looked safe for those who backed the Wildcats with time expiring. No big deal. Run a play, maybe turn it over or maybe get tackled as time expires, right?

Wrong.

With one final desperation play, Northwestern did the familiar toss-the-ball-around-until-this-eventually-ends scramble. The problem—and perhaps this was far from it depending on which side you were on—was Northwestern’s final lateral went astray and Ohio State jumped on it in the end zone.

With that, Ohio State increased its victory margin to 10 and also secured the cover.

According to RJ Bell of Pregame.com, 80% of the money bet on this game backed the Buckeyes – meaning OSU’s lucky cover was a big win for bettors and big loss for bookies.
