Florida Gov. Rick Scott applauded AT&T Monday for a $25,000 donation the telecommunications giant made to the Florida Disaster Fund.
“I want to thank AT&T for its incredible generosity. Hurricane Matthew impacted communities from Palm Beach to Nassau [counties] and now thousands of families along the East Coast are focused on recovery and returning to their normal routines,” Scott said. “The Florida Disaster Fund, through generous contributions from individuals and corporations alike, will provide critical funding to disaster relief organizations committed to assisting those in need.”
Volunteer Florida CEO Chester Spellman also thanked AT&T for their “generous support” and said the donation will help the Florida Disaster Fund to pump needed funds into the many state and local organizations assisting in hurricane recovery.
“Humanitarian responses to natural disasters depend on contributions from the public as well as the generosity of governments,” said AT&T Florida president Joe York. “AT&T’s contribution to the Florida Disaster Fund will help Floridians as they begin the work of recovery and rebuilding.”
Hurricane Matthew traveled along Florida’s east coast over the weekend, killing at least six people in Florida and leaving tens of thousands without power.
Donations to the Florida Disaster Fund are tax-deductible and can be made online at the fund’s website or by mail.
