Case dismissed: Dan Raulerson to remain in House

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by
Dan Raulerson

A Tallahassee judge has tossed out a lawsuit over the use of “Wite Out” on state Rep. Dan Raulerson‘s re-election filing paperwork. In an order issued Wednesday, Circuit Judge Charles W. Dodson dropped the case brought by Jose N. Vazquez Figueroa, the Democrat who unsuccessfully challenged Raulerson last year for the House District 58 seat. Dodson ruled he did not have jurisdiction to decide the matter and threw out the suit “with prejudice,” meaning Vazquez can’t refile it. Raulerson’s lawyer, Emmett Mitchell, had argued in a Tuesday court hearing that the judge couldn’t…

Dan Raulerson qualifying challenge now in judge’s hands

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by
Raulerson, Dan

A Tallahassee judge now will decide whether a lawsuit challenging state Rep. Dan Raulerson‘s re-election over the use of “Wite Out” will go forward. “I’m going to review this and get an order out,” Circuit Judge Charles W. Dodson said Tuesday, after a half-hour hearing. “Good luck.” Raulerson’s attorney had moved to toss out the case, saying it was moot with the Plant City Republican having won in November and been sworn in to represent House District 58.  Only the House of Representatives, which is constitutionally the sole…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Among the 2017 priorities that the Hillsborough County Regional Transit Authority’s government liaison, Cesar Hernandez told board members on Monday, one would be to continue to push for anything that can push autonomous vehicle technology forward in the new year. In case you’re not familiar with the whole driverless car concept, you should know that the Sunshine State, led by St. Petersburg Republican state Senator Jeff Brandes enthusiasm and advocacy, is in the vanguard of states when it comes to this new form of transportation. Speaking to the Hillsborough County Legislative Delegation on Friday, Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer had two requests for state lawmakers. Jeff Clemens proposes automatic voter registration bill in Florida

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

Palm Beach County state Senator Jeff Clemens filed legislation this week (SB 72) that would automatically register Floridians to vote when they apply for or renew their driver’s license. “The reason is pretty simple – nobody should have to jump through an extra hoop to exercise their constitutional rights,” says Clemens, who edged out Irv Slosberg in a fiercely combative primary in the Democratic-leaning Senate District 31 in August. Clemens says this is either the third or fourth time he’s proposed such…

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

At their first event since being devastated by the results of the presidential election, there was literally not enough room to contain the number of Democrats who showed up at the Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee meeting in Ybor City Monday night. A second room adjoining the main boardroom at the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County facility was opened to contain the overflow crowd. “We’ve been inundated since the election,” said Ione Townsend, the chair of the Hillsborough County DEC. Although officially only 14…

Dan Raulerson sued over Wite-Out on campaign form

in The Bay and the 'Burg by
Wite-out

Incumbent state Rep. Dan Raulerson‘s Democratic opponent has sued him, challenging the credentials he used to qualify to run for office. Namely, Democrat Jose N. Vazquez Figueroa this week alleged that Raulerson should be disqualified for the House District 58 race because someone used “correction fluid,” such as Wite-Out, on his paperwork, his suit said. He’s suing Raulerson, a two-term Plant City Republican, and Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer, Secretary of State Ken Detzner in his role as the state’s chief elections officer, and Kristi…
