The running game has been an important factor in the Miami-Florida State series. In the past 30 meetings between the Sunshine State rivals, the team with the most rushing yards has won 22 times. It will likely be a determining factor again on Saturday when the 13th-ranked Hurricanes visit the Seminoles.
James Blackman shook off a struggle-filled day to connect with Auden Tate on a 40-yard touchdown throw with 53 seconds left, helping Florida State rally past Wake Forest 26-19 on Saturday for its first win. Blackman — the freshman pressed into a starting role due to injury earlier this year — had thrown for just 81 yards entering that final drive for the Seminoles (1-2, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). But after the FSU defense forced a three-and-out, Blackman was perfect…
Ryan Finley threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns as North Carolina State got its first road win over a ranked team since 2008, defeating No. 12 Florida State 27-21 on Saturday. Jaylen Samuels had two touchdowns as the Wolfpack broke a 10-game losing streak to ranked teams. Their last win over a Top 25 team coincidentally was against Florida State in 2012. Their last victory on the road over a ranked team was at North Carolina.
A young, inexperienced starting quarterback is the talk of college football in the state of Florida. How will Florida State true freshman James Blackman do this weekend as he steps in for the injured Deondre Francois? The Seminoles are not the only ones starting a signal caller with precious little experience. Though he is now a legend among the Florida faithful, the Gators’ redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks has started a grand total of two games.
Late in the fourth quarter of Florida State’s opening game against Alabama, Seminole fans knew they were about to go 0-1. Truth be told, so too did the FSU bench. At the same time, they knew, Jimbo Fisher and the staff knew, and the players knew, the season was far from over. They could still regroup, correct shortcomings (with special emphasis on special teams) and still win the ACC title and earn a spot in the College Football Playoffs.
Florida State sophomore quarterback Deondre Francois has been lost for the season after suffering an injury near the end of Saturday night’s 24-7 loss to Alabama. The Tallahassee Democrat reports Francois tore the patella tendon in his left knee and will undergo surgery as early as Tuesday. Seminoles players, coaches and fans feared the worst after Francois was carted off the field late in the game after being sacked from behind. He was clutching his knee and left the field…
The anticipation for week one of the college football season can only be surpassed by the overreactions to week one of the college football season. LOL, Tom Herman hype. Sam Darnold and No. 4 Southern California? Overrated. Florida? No quarterback. North Carolina State? Already a disappointment.
