Personnel note: Christian Minor to lead juvenile justice group

J. Christian Minor has been selected as the new Executive Director for the Florida Juvenile Justice Association (FJJA), a Monday press release announced. He begins Oct. 23. Minor has been Legislative Affairs Director for Bridges International, “the largest provider of non-profit inmate reentry in the state of Florida,” the release said.

Despite a host of problems facing the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, it has managed to lower youth arrests for nonviolent offenses through the increased use of civil citations, according to a 2017 report on the government agency by the Florida Juvenile Justice Association. Officials say the number of human trafficking cases have increased more than 50 percent in the state from the previous year.The Florida Department of Children and Families says Florida received 1,892 reports of human trafficking. That’s a 54 percent increase from the previous year.
