Mitch Perry Report for 7.12.16 – Will the FBI open another investigation into Hillary Clinton?

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

While there should be smiles in Portsmouth, New Hampshire later today when Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton have their unity rally, some things to contemplate about Ms. Clinton, a week after the FBI announced that they will not indict her in the investigation of her email server while serving as secretary of state. A majority of Americans think Comey let her off easily. Fifty-six percent of Americans disapprove of Comey’s decision to exonerate her, according to a Washington Post survey released Monday,…

Mitch Perry Report for 5.11.16 — Hillary’s weak close

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

For the last week, the political news media has been obsessed with the likely Donald Trump/Hillary Clinton general election confrontation. Although he has been the front-runner throughout 2016, Trump’s big victory over Ted Cruz in Indiana last week prompted Cruz and John Kasich to quit the race, and by last Wednesday, Trump was your GOP nominee. It’s been a week of taking stock just on that. But concurrent with that is the fact that it’s felt for awhile that while…

Kyle Cockream came before the House Economics Committee to speak in support of the bill, sponsored by Republican Dana Young from Tampa and Plant City’s Dan Raulerson. Hillsborough County Legislative Delegation passes measure to regulate Uber & Lyft, but future remains unclear

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

The Hillsborough County Legislative Delegation spent hours (and hours) on Tuesday discussing proposed legislation that would bring ridesharing companies Uber and Lyft into compliance with the Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission, but whether they actually moved the issue forward at the end of the day is dubious. The setting for the local group of state lawmakers to convene was the Firestick Grill, described as an “upscale buffet” that happens to be located inside the cavernous Amalie Arena. Dozens of people, including lobbyists,…

(UPDATED) The Florida Attorney General’s office has decided it’s up to the Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission to decide whether it wants to hire lobbyists. The decision came at the request from St. Petersburg GOP state Sen. Jeff Brandes for an opinion on the issue. In a letter to Brandes on Thursday, Assistant Attorney General Ellen B. Gwynne wrote, “This is not a matter that the Attorney General may presently comment on.” She went on to quote the AG’s website, which…

Mitch Perry Report for 10.7.15 — Marco Rubio is missing votes, but will that really matter?

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Happy Wednesday to y’all. And if you’re a NY Yankee fan, hey, be positive. At least you made the “playoff,” for the first time in three years. There’s a new Quinnipiac poll out this morning on the Florida presidential race, and the results here are similar to everywhere else in the country.  It’s Trump and Carson taking charge. Marco Rubio is third at 14 percent. Hey, 3rd place behind the two non-politicos — not bad, you might think. Not great either. He…

Dana Young not happy about PTC advertorial in Tampa Bay Business Journal

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Unlike some of her contemporaries, Tampa House Republican Dana Young isn’t looking to eliminate the Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission. But she’s less than pleased with the agency upon learning that it recently purchased space in the Tampa Bay Business Journal for an advertorial spread explaining how the agency works. “WHY is the Hillsborough PTC advertising in the Tampa Bay Business Journal? If ad not free, we deserve an explanation,” Young tweeted out after seeing a link to the advertorial. “I’d like to know what…
