Newly-minted Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister files for (re)-election

One business day after Chad Chronister was officially sworn in as the new Hillsborough County Sheriff, he filed his paperwork to run for (re)-election in November of 2018. Chronister was tapped by Gov. Rick Scott to replace David Gee in August. He was the only applicant for the position.

Save Southern Heritage files defamation lawsuit versus two Hillsborough Democrats

Save Southern Heritage is going back to court, charging two Hillsborough County Democrats with defamation for calling them a “white supremacist group.” The leading advocacy group for keeping a Confederate monument in front of the Hillsborough County Courthouse annex is reacting to statements from Ione Townsend, chair of the Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee. The action also takes issue with comments posted on the activist group Organize Florida website as well as those by Tim Heberlein, the political director of the group.

Rick Kriseman supporters confident mayoral race will go to November

Supporters of Rick Kriseman knocked on doors and called likely voters on Sunday, less than 48 hours before the primary election in St. Petersburg. “I think the race has narrowed. It’s become a bit closer than what some of the polls have indicated,” predicted state Senator Darryl Rouson, who twice gave pep talks to volunteers at the campaign’s Midtown headquarters on 22nd Street South.
