Seminoles on the rise in AP Top 25; Gators steady, ‘Canes drop

in Sports by

The Florida State Seminoles are on a wild ride in the AP Top 25 poll. One week after taking a huge fall following a loss to North Carolina, the Seminoles climbed nine spots to claim the No. 14 spot in this week’s poll. FSU’s 20-19 win at Miami, featuring a strong defensive performance, impressed enough voters to bring them back to some relevance. The Hurricanes dropped from No. 10 to No. 16. Florida remained at No. 18 following an unscheduled…

Critics think Florida had motives for not playing the LSU game

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Evidently, some people think the Florida Gators should have taken on LSU’s Tigers and a hurricane over the weekend. How else do you explain the reaction the Gators got for suspending their game? There are those who suggested the Gators didn’t want to play the game. Why else wouldn’t Florida have moved the game to Baton Rouge? Why wouldn’t Florida travel to the ends of the earth to play the game? “Nineteen deaths, 2.5 million people without power,” said Gators…

Hurricane Matthew forces changes to state football games

Hurricane Matthew has forced some Florida schools to find another day to play their scheduled games. It must be said at the beginning that people’s lives and well-being are what is most important. The Florida-LSU game was to be played Saturday. The teams were unable to agree on any alternative arrangements to play the game elsewhere this weekend, and the Southeastern Conference said they would try to reschedule – though that seems unlikely since the Gators and Tigers do…

Frankly, Jimbo Fisher already has a better job than LSU

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Jimbo Fisher, still of FSU, isn’t talking. And what does that say? The LSU football job had been open, oh, about nine seconds before Fisher’s name was mentioned again. If you remember, LSU reportedly had “ongoing” negotiations with Fisher (Fisher denies it) when the school was considering canning Les Miles after last season before Miles saved his job. This time, both Houston’s Tom Herman, one of the hottest commodities out there, and Fisher were quickly mentioned. “I ain’t talking about…

LSU sticks with Les Miles, but Georgia fires Mark Richt

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Following a season-ending victory, Les Miles hung onto his coaching job. Mark Richt did not. The Georgia Bulldogs fired Richt, who had been their coach for 15 seasons, on Sunday. Richt had nine 10-win seasons, and if Richt stays on the job and wins a bowl game, this would be his 10th. Richt was 145-51 with two SEC titles. His team was 9-3 this year. The school released a statement saying it and Richt had “mutually agreed” to part ways.…

Why would FSU’s Jimbo Fisher want to go to LSU?

in Sports/Top Headlines by

He has heard zydeco music. He has tasted Cajun food. He has read the novels of James Lee Burke. Why, then, would Jimbo Fisher go to LSU? Oh, it’s obvious why LSU would want Fisher. Heck, who wouldn’t? Along with Urban Meyer and Nick Saban, he’s one of the best coaches working today. He can coach, he can recruit, he can run a program. So anyone who needs a coach – and it’s sounding a lot like LSU will be…
