Rev. Manuel Sykes, former president of the St. Petersburg NAACP, filed a lawsuit against an 86-year old widow based on a traffic accident that occurred on November 10, 2015. Sykes sites “serious bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, expenses of hospitalization, of medical and nursing care and treatment, loss of earnings and ability to earn a living.” The accident occurred on 54th Avenue South. The Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee elected Ione Townsend on Monday night to be their chairwoman for the remainder of 2016. Of the 76 votes counted, Townsend took home 68 votes.
