in The Bay and the 'Burg by

For candidates in local races, the home stretch of campaign season often means knocking on neighborhood doors and asking people for their vote. This is Republican Sandy Murman’s ninth run for public office, and she knows the drill well. She is the incumbent in the Hillsborough County Commission District 1 race against Jeff Zampitella, and no one will be surprised if she wins. But while she has been busy trying to pile up votes in advance of Tuesday’s election, she has been…

Joe Henderson: Hillsborough rideshare decision could rest with ‘problem solver’ Ken Hagan

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Ken Hagan has been elected five times to the Hillsborough County Commission. That ought to say something about the way voters feel he takes care of both his and the public’s business. Headlines tend to find him because he always seems to be involved in something important, but I wouldn’t say he seeks out publicity. Not at all. He tends to fly at treetop level, quietly working to get things done. And as Peter Schorsch of this great website just…

A hearing is set for June 22, but a ruling on that decision could take months to decide. A month…

There were definite moments of disagreements between Jim Norman and Tim Schock in their candidate forum at a South Tampa eatery on Monday night. On the issue of Go Hillsborough, though, the two Republicans vying to run for the District 6 County Commission seat this November are singing from the same page. “It’s D.O.A.” Norman said of the possible half-cent transportation tax. The current BOCC will decide this month whether it goes on the November ballot. “You’re not going to…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission (PTC) Chairman Victor Crist says that Jeff Brandes‘ recent inquiry on whether the PTC should be allowed to hire lobbyists was simply a ploy “to try to stir the pot” in advance of next week’s Hillsborough County Legislative Delegation meeting. “This is a publicity stunt by Sen. Brandes to stir the pot before the delegation meets so he can waive his hands in the air and go, ‘Oh look, here we go again, there’s another…
