The Tampa Bay Rays continue to embrace Erasmo Ramirez, their find of the off-season. Ramirez ran his record to 10-4 in an easy 9-2 victory over the first-place Houston Astros Monday night. Ramirez has made 15 starts since May 14 and and has gone 10-3, third in the American League for victories over that span. He is 10-0 when receiving two runs or more of run support. This time, it is Kevin Kiermaier’s bat that sparks Rays to victory

in Sports/Top Headlines by

You admire him for his arm. You have seen Kevin Kiermaier throw the danger off of the base paths, and you have nodded at the performance. He has a fine arm, an arm that opposing baserunners should fear. And for the Tampa Bay Rays, that is a strong enough weapon. And you have cheered him for his glove. You have seen Kiermaier chase down would-be doubles and steal them from the air, and you have cheered the sight. He has…

One swing, and the Orioles have a grand time beating the Tampa Bay Rays

in Sports/Top Headlines by

To the Tampa Bay Rays, four runs seems like a mountain. To the Rays, four runs feels like a week’s worth. To the Rays, four runs seems insurmountable. Is this any way to start the second half? The Tampa Bay Rays didn’t get enough pitching and they didn’t get enough hitting Friday night. As a result, they fell back to .500 Friday night, losing a 6-2 game to the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto scored five runs in the fifth to pull into a tie with the second-place Rays, who managed only five hits on the night. For Tampa Bay, starter Jake Odorizzi didn’t make it out of the…

Rays’ pitching leads them to 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros

in Sports/Top Headlines by

They didn’t hit it often. They didn’t score until late. But the Tampa Bay Rays eased their wounds Friday night, getting a 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros as they began their final road trip before the all-star game. Tampa Bay had only four hits, and it didn’t score until the seventh inning. But on a night when the Rays ended 18 games of torture – a 3-15 record – it was enough. Erasmo Ramirez ran his record to 8-3,…

Rays finally end their losing skid by beating Yankees

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Finally. Relief. The Tampa Bay Rays won a baseball game at last Sunday afternoon, finally getting enough hitting, enough scoring and enough pitching to return to the win column after losing seven straight ballgames. They beat the New York Yankees, 8-1, scoring the game’s first four and its last four. The Rays had been fairly creative in all their losing, dropping games on three-run homers and on botched bunt plays. They had won only one of their previous 10 games.…
