Displaced but not daunted, the Tampa Bay Rays hung tough in their temporary home. Adeiny Hechavarria hit a tiebreaking homer off Sonny Gray in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Rays, hosting a series relocated to Citi Field because of Hurricane Irma, beat the New York Yankees 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Tommy Pham hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals rallied for a 6-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. It was Pham’s first career walk-off homer and the fourth this season for the Cardinals.
Kevin Pillar hit Toronto’s sixth home run of the game in the eighth inning, lifting the Blue Jays over the Tampa Bay Rays 7-6 on Wednesday night. Pillar snapped a 6-6 tie with a homer off Tommy Hunter (2-5) to help the Blue Jays end a four-game losing streak. It was Pillar’s 13th homer of the season.
Justin Smoak hit a tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning, Josh Donaldson added two solo blasts and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 on Thursday. Smoak hit a two-run drive off Tommy Hunter (2-4), his 33rd, as the Blue Jays took three of four from the Rays to remain on the fringes of the AL wild card race. Toronto is 10-5 in August.
Lucas Duda hit a two-run homer, Wilson Ramos added a solo shot and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 on Tuesday night, snapping a four-game skid. Backed by Tampa Bay’s biggest offensive outburst since Aug. 1, Blake Snell pitched six innings to win for the first time this season. Snell’s last victory came Sept. 22, 2016, against the New York Yankees.
Corey Dickerson finally delivered a big hit for the Tampa Bay Rays with men on base. Dickerson’s broke out of an 0-for-21 slump with a three-run homer in the eighth inning that carried the Rays to a 4-1 win over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night. Tampa Bay had scored only four runs in its previous five games.
Steven Souza Jr. homered off Milwaukee reliever Jacob Barnes leading off the ninth inning Sunday to lift the Tampa Bay Rays to a 2-1 win over the Brewers. Souza’s 24th home run helped the Rays salvage a win in a three-game series in which they scored only two runs. It was Souza’s first walkoff homer with the Rays.
