A bill that removes the requirement that write-in candidates live within the district of the seat they’re seeking has passed its first committee stop. Members of the House Government Operations Subcommittee passed House Bill 4043 Tuesday morning with no discussion. The bill’s sponsor, Joseph Geller, told committee members the bill was needed to repeal a law that causes confusion for voting districts because different districts have different provisions. From Janet Zink: State Rep. Rachel Burgin’s opponent in the Republican primary for the District 56 seat, Marc Johnson, is a dentist. Still, Burgin has received the endorsement of the Florida Dental Association, her campaign announced. She also has the endorsement of the National Rifle Association and the Unified Sportsmen of Florida. The winner of the Republican primary will face Democrat David Chalela and write-in candidate Lewis Laricchia in the general election.
