Another TV reporter is jumping ship to handle public relations. WTSP reporter Grayson Kamm is heading to Tampa’s Museum of Science and Industry to head the non-profit’s media relations.

“We are Tampa Bay’s community-supported science center, and Grayson’s experience connecting with people from all over our area — along with covering a ton of science and technology stories — make him a great fit,” said MOSI CEO Molly Demeulenaere, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

Kamm will replace former media relations director Shannon Herbon who left MOSI earlier this month to assume the role of public information officer at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

Kamm is taking on a full plate at MOSI. The science educational center has been struggling for years with financial solvency. They recently fell under harsh scrutiny after being accused of misusing a $1.4 million donation.

A donation from a wealthy donor was intended to name a building, but allegedly wasn’t used for the purpose originally stated. Rumors of a move to downtown Tampa would also breach Robert Lang’s donation because the building named after his wife would no longer exist.

In a controversial move, museum officials also turned down a $400,000 loan from Hillsborough County to bridge a funding deficit and shortly after, vice president Tanya Vomacka resigned her leadership post.

Since mounting news of MOSI woes rumors have circulated that the non-profit was looking for ways to tell its story in order to boost donor contributions. As a 501(c)3 the organization raises about 40 percent of its operating funds through donations each year.

“Because so many people in our community support MOSI and care about us, it’s important for them to hear about the really cutting-edge work in science and technology we’re sharing with the public here, and our vital mission of educating thousands of children every year — and Grayson is the right person to get that message out,” Demeulenaere said.

Kamm comes with about 8 years of experience with News Channel 10. He leaves the CBS affiliate January 15.
