The ballots have been sent out, now they just have to do is come back.
Nearly 63,000 mail ballots have been sent out for the St. Petersburg citywide primary. As of Friday, 18 percent have returned — more than 11,200.
The numbers released by the Pinellas County Department of Elections include ballots mailed out, as well as people who have gone to the election offices and picked up ballots prior to Aug. 2.
What is not included in the numbers are the 780 replacements for the wrong ballots sent to precincts 106 and 109 in District 6 where incumbent Karl Nurse faces a challenge from Trevor Mallory and Sharon Russ. Those ballots were supposed to be for District 5, a city council seat not up for election.
According to the Pinellas DOE website, requests for ballots to be mailed must be received no later than 5 p.m. on the 6th day prior to an election. Voters may also pick up mail ballots in person prior to 7 p.m. on Election Day. The citywide primary is Aug. 27.
