Two Tampa Bay area young people became pedestrian fatalities in separate incidents about 12 hours apart.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reports that 12-year-old Leonard Pineda was running through a parking lot to catch his school bus Thursday morning when an SUV hit him. The Farnell Middle School student was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died.

Thursday night, the sheriff’s office reports that 17-year-old Emily Lopez was crossing a four-lane road against a no-walk signal. The Tampa Bay Tech senior was clipped by one car’s side mirror and then hit by another car following the first. She died at the scene.

No charges were immediately filed in either crash. No drug or alcohol use was suspected by any of the drivers.
