American Strategic Insurance is sponsoring the second annual “Engage St. Pete” event aimed at introducing “ambitious, civically interested, and fresh-thinking professionals with the individuals and organizations that make things happen in St. Petersburg.”

The group hopes to best its inaugural turnout last year of more than 300 people during its event on April 29 at the Museum of Fine Arts in downtown St. Pete.

This year’s theme is “For the Love of St. Pete” and will be headlined by author, TEDTalk speaker and St. Pete native Peter Kageyama.

Last year featured conversations surrounding opportunities and challenges facing the city. This year is expected to contain similar dialogue.

The event is hosted by the St. Petersburg Sunset Rotary Foundation and the St. Pete Chamber Young Professionals. Engage St. Pete is catered toward “forward-thinking, progress-minded professionals interested in the future of St. Pete.”

Kageyama authored the books For the Love of Cities: The Love Affair Between People and Their Places and Love where you Live: Creating Emotionally Engaging Places. Kageyama also works as a grassroots engagement strategist.

There will be several 40-minute breakout sessions. Topics include arts, waterfront, development, transportation, and “for the love of St. Petersburg.” Sessions will be paneled by St. Pete residents, business leaders and other “thought leaders.”

The event is from 6-9 p.m. April 29 at the Museum of Fina Arts and includes a cocktail hour with complimentary food and drinks.

Registration is $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Registration is available on the Engage St. Pete website.
