Eating out in Florida - Some of the food looks nice but all the flavor has been remove. I say removed because you'd think it was there at some point. Lived here 5 years and what used to be a treat is now a groaning experience. The shear terror of "where do you want to go to eat", sends sweat balls rolling down my brow. Instead of thinking "oh, goody, chow time", I'm thinking "fried Sysco institutional food" with rednecks on vacation changing babies on the tables (no kidding), and/or screaming breeder trophies jumping on seats and throwing chicken nuggets and fries. There are very few good restaurants in Florida. 90% are chains, the preference of nit-wit rude amerikan types, or greasy spoons. Original gems like the Lobster Pot on the beach, The Garden (St Pete) are gone. Newbies like the Banana Leaf, Pass-s-Grille were short lived. You can always toss money to the wind and go to Marchands at the Vinoy or Parkshore Grill, but they get old after a while.

Peter - The liberal in me prefers to er on the side of the freedoms we were given by the founding fathers. I realize this law was born out of angst over the panhandling issue. However, the more I thought about it the more I realize that we were putting up with a dangerous situation on the roadways and being harassed buy panhandlers only because nobody would stand up to the Times. The Time and to a lessor extent MDA are NOT collateral damage. The two are a Bonus, especially the Times. This is NOT about freedom of speech its the Times circulation vs public safety. Get outta the street!
