You are a bunch of whiners and wannabees. If you were that good, you'd be writing for a MAJOR publication. This site is nothing but negative slander.

Elizabeth has a huge ego and has a lot of guts to complain about others stealing ideas. Get a grip and more importantly get over yourself.

Fan of Saint Petersblog, Eat St. Pete, the Burg and the St. Pete Times ... plus lots of other local blogs and local news organizations.
Traditional local media should report more on what's happening in the local social media world. Groups that have thousands of fans are definitely newsworthy, I think, and for the traditional media to pretend like they don't exist is wrong.

As for crediting bloggers for stories, though ... I think if the blog is the main source, then definitely credit them. But if a news reporter simply saw a little mention on Facebook or Twitter or on a blog, and then went on with their reporting/other sources/etc, there's no need to credit the blog. The way news travels so fast these days, it's often impossible to say who had it first.

I don't mean to wax too extensively on this but, yes, it certainly does reek of ego when you read it all. I will say this... I have asked the Times directly about this and their view is if they spend the time reporting it and seeking their own info, they can write it as they see fit. That is a legit answer, as far as legit answers go.

For myself, I make it no secret that we are not the media but simply conduits of information. We don't even really "report" we just post. I would rather be acknowledged for what we do and the appreciation and response we get from the community because of it. Posting 3 times a day, building a base membership to over 19,000. I think that's news that deserves to be covered, but I could be wrong. And that's not ego, it's recognition for the hard work we've put into it and some of the creative ways it's been used with no real profit from it all. If the Times is guilty of anything, it

Okay, well that WAS a topic of conversation when we all happened to be out supporting St. Pete Brasserie, only because of the frequency with which this has been happening lately. My only point was that a little credit would have been appreciated, not to mention ethical. I spoke with Wilko at Brasserie after the fact and he stated he specifically mentioned me as a catalyst in the resurrection of his restaurant to SPT, but that was apparently edited out. As far as my writing is concerned, I do the job of three people at the Times to bring all the information I have to the community and I'm not exaggerating when I say that. This takes 60-80 hours per week of my time. Opinions on writing styles are very subjective. On any given day, I can give examples of when I thought Laura's writing fell short or was even inaccurate. We all do the best we can. The point is we all had examples of stories that were lifted from us and I'd like it to stop unless SPT is going to credit the people that broke these stories as an ethical, award-winning paper should.

Hmm.... looks like the "Bitter Pills" now have a local chapter, LOL! You, Lizabeth and Brian. The Club Sinn tip was sent out by SPPD PIO to all media ... so there was no scoop. Of the three of you The Burg has potential - if Brian doesn't allow his ego to trip him up ... Peter, you have serious integrity issues and EVERYONE in town knows it. Liz ... you can't be serious. Laura Reilly wrote circles around you...as will Mr. Webster. Stick to the recipes ... they're at least interesting. I would love to see a good local blog challenge the SPT, but you guys need a reality check. Real bloggers are light years ahead of you.

Ask the Tampa Bay Business Journal about the same thing. Late 90s and early 00s (before Times had a business section and then killed it), the St Pete Lies would read the TBBJ stories on Friday and then rewrite them for Monday morning without mention of the TBBJ at all. Used to be a Wall of Shame to post these antics...
