Still, I thought this day would be an appropriate time to share a few personal messages.
Quite honestly, this is the happiest time of my entire life. Six years ago, during the darkest hours of my life, I would have never thought any of this would be possible. This being a redemption – emotionally, intellectually, financially, personally, politically, spiritually – that is as much a testament to others as it is to myself, a testament to so many others’ belief in the power of second chances.
While there are literally hundreds of people to whom I am grateful for helping me along the way on this comeback, a few individuals deserve special recognition.
My – I guess I should call him this – best friend Alan Suskey, who, while knowing him only for a few years, has been a tremendous friend and partner.
Second, my saintly and beloved mother, who helped nurse me while I was down and propel me forward on my way up.
Third, and most important, the love of my life, Michelle. Quite honestly, I would have been content had my comeback plateaued where it was at the beginning of last year, but Michelle coming into my life, with her beauty, compassion, intelligence, loyalty and tenderness, has shown me what the good life is really all about.
Everyone tells me how lucky I am to have her in my life and I have never, ever thought otherwise.
What I never thought is that I would be is this happy again. For Michelle, for my mother and family, for Alan and my friends, for my business partners and clients , for my generous readers, I am eternally grateful.
