A wave of congressional incumbents qualify for re-election

This week began the qualifying period for Florida’s fall congressional races, with 23 incumbent U.S. House members already submitting the required paperwork to run for re-election, according to the Florida Division of Elections website.

Qualifying Monday and Tuesday were 53 candidates in Florida’s 27 congressional districts. The qualifying period ends noon Friday.

As of Tuesday night, incumbents listed as qualified on the state website: Republicans Gus Bilirakis, Vern Buchanan, Ron DeSantis, Mario Diaz-Balart, David Jolly, John Mica, Jeff Miller, Rich Nugent, Bill Posey, Tom Rooney, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Dennis Ross, Steve Southerland, and Ted Yoho.

Qualified Democrats are Corrine Brown, Kathy Castor, Ted Deutch, Alan Grayson, Joe Garcia, Alcee Hastings, Patrick Murphy, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Frederica Wilson.
