Life and politics from the Sunshine State's best city

A week left of twentysomething life

Seven days are all that are left before I turn 30. Because my birthday falls on January 4th, it faces the danger of being lost in the holiday shuffle. I, of course, do my absolute best to make sure this does not happen.

See, I believe in the specialness of someone’s birthday and have always done my best to make my family and friends’ birthdays not just another day. Of course, this is done quid pro quo, with me keeping a very detailed list of those so-called “friends” that dare forget my birthday.

This year, the festivities are beginning much earlier than they ever have. Tonight, one of my best friends, Mark Adamiak, in town from Louisville Dental School, is taking me out on his last night here. Plans are to start drinking, move the party over to Tampa, enjoy dinner at Bern’s and then take in a Lightning game. Anyone on that side of the bridge is welcome to come along, although this does not exscuse you from mandatory participation in future activites related to my birthday.
