The automobile club AAA is forecasting that about 4.8 million Florida residents will travel at least 50 miles this Christmas and New Year holiday season, up 1.2 percent over last year. Nationally, AAA says about 92 million people plan to travel, creating the second highest travel volume in the past decade. Nearly 6 in 10 people told AAA that the economy either has no impact on their plans, or they feel like things have improved. Still, the other 4 in 10 say they’ll scale back travel plans over economic worries. According to the automobile club, about 4.3 million of those travelers will go by car, up slightly from last year, while, likely reflecting the economy, only 261,000 plan to travel by air, a drop of 11 percent from last year. AAA’s projections are done by forecasting firm HIS Global Insight.
