After a quiet Fourth, “Grandpa” Scott will embark on political trail

The Fourth of July is going to be quiet for Gov. Rick Scott, according to Steve Bousquet, with no planned events for extended holiday weekend. Scott, who usually keeps a hectic schedule, won’t return to the campaign trail until Sunday.

Political fireworks might be one of the last things on the governor’s mind, at least for the next few weeks. Scott’s two daughters, Allison and Jordan, are pregnant, and expected to give birth in August. What’s more is that both are expecting boys, making the state’s chief executive a grandfather of three, including Auguste, who was born last year.

“Grandpa” Scott will be the featured speaker Sunday at the Crowne Plaza Pensacola Grand Hotel, for the Escambia County Lincoln Day Dinner celebration.

Two years ago, local teachers heckled Scott at the event over his policies. Some held signs saying, “Florida doesn’t care about teachers.” Since then, he pressed for a $2500 pay raise for teachers.

The Pensacola event this year could be a bellwether of Scott’s popularity in seeking re-election.
