This morning, after nearly a decade of pursuing it, I finally harpooned one of the white whales of my life — owning the domain, StPetersBlog.com.
In my little world, this is a very big deal.
For years, I have been frustrated by the fact that there was this other StPetersBlog.com, which was created after I launched my site and also focused on local politics. I could tell by the search referrals that hundreds of readers a day came to my site after leaving that other site. Reading the analytics, I could also tell that the existence of SaintPetersBlog.com and StPetersBlog.com was horribly confusing to readers, who Google searched for one site only to reach the wrong domain.
That ends today. I now own the domain StPetersBlog.com, which will soon enough be directed to SaintPetersBlog.com.
Jordan Raynor, the political tech wizard who has so often served as a sounding board for my bad ideas and has needled me throughout the years for my clumsy branding, can now rest easy.
