Associated Industries of Florida Thursday released its endorsements for the 120-member Florida House. All members are up for election this year and the business group endorsed candidates in 75 races. The group says its main purpose is to enhance the business climate in Florida.
“All of these candidates have showcased their commitment to the success of our great state in terms of growing our economy, expanding our job base and positioning Florida as the No. 1 state to conduct business,” said AIF President and CEO Tom Feeney.
In nine races, AIF went with the incumbent, throwing its support behind Rep. Keith Perry, R-Gainesville, Rep David Santiago, R-Deltona, Rep. Karen Castor-Dentel, D-Maitland, Rep. Linda Stewart, D-Orlando, Rep. John Tobia, R- Melbourne Beach, Rep. Ross Spano, R-Riverview, Rep. Kathleen Peters, R-St. Petersburg, Rep. Erik Fresen, R-Miami, and Rep. Mike Bileca, R-Miami.
Associated Industries is on the bandwagon for three former representatives trying to return to the Capitol; endorsing former Rep. Brad Drake in his bid for the District 5 seat in the Panhandle, former Rep. Scott Plakon in the Orlando area District 29 race and former Rep. Fred Costello in the race for House District 25 in Volusia County.
In a tight race in the Jacksonville area, AIF endorsed Paul Renner, in a Pinellas contest the group gives a nod to Chris Latvala and in a Broward race the group is behind Kristen Jacob.
In House races AIF endorsed 20 Democratic candidates and 55 Republican candidates.
