All Rubio, all the time: wondering if Rivera will cost Marco VP slot; upcoming bio is “flattering”

It’s all Rubio, all the time around here with two interesting reads out this morning.

Chris Cillizza wonders if Rivera will cost Marco the VP slot:

“Rivera is the very controversial Florida U.S. House member who remains under FBI and IRS investigation for a series of campaign finance irregularities,” says the Washington Post political blogger. “It’s not clear how long Rubio can keep this ‘he’s an old friend’ schtick up… What the Rivera relationship reveals is that Rubio remains a somewhat lightly vetted candidate on the national stage…If the foundational principle of picking a vice president is ‘do no harm’ than it’s not difficult to imagine the Romney folks being a bit spooked by the Rubio-Rivera relationship and what else they might not know about the junior Senator from Florida.”

The Tampa Bay Times‘ Adam Smith got his hands on an advance copy of the unauthorized biography of Rubio by Manuel Roig-Franzia. Smith says the bio:

“…turns out to be a nuanced and largely flattering portrait of one of the most exciting figures on the national stage, rather than the hatchet job some Rubio allies had feared.” … “The Rise of Marco Rubio may leave some readers questioning Rubio’s political core on issues ranging from immigration to government spending, but it’s unlikely to dent Rubio’s star power.”
