Representatives of the Florida Smart Justice Alliance will detail the organization’s goals and legislative priorities during a presentation to the Florida Senate Criminal Justice Committee at 9:00 am on Tuesday. Several of the committee members attended the 2012 Justice Summit held in Orlando last month, where legislators voiced general support for meaningful changes to Florida’s criminal justice system.
The Smart Justice Alliance is working to develop policies designed to make Florida’s communities safer, save the taxpayers money and hold offenders accountable while providing the tools for them to live law-abiding lives. During the committee meeting, the Alliance will present important overview information regarding the organization’s work; Smart Justice policy changes that could save millions of tax dollars; and recent public opinion poll results that show elected leaders can support such initiatives and still be considered “tough on crime.”
