Richard Pulido, Vice Mayor of Miami Lakes, visited the STU campus to speak to the students of the Miniaci Family Lead Now Program.

“The world desperately needs leaders, desperately needs people to allow others to contribute,” said Pulido. “That does not have to be as vice mayor of a city, you can contribute to make something extraordinary happen in any capacity.”

Pulido, who graduated from St. Thomas University with a Bachelor’s degree in History in 1993, was elected to the Miami Lakes Town Council in October, 2006 and reelected in 2008. He also teaches at Biscayne College.

The high school students who are part of the Miniaci Lead Now Program have the opportunity to earn college credits and are eligible for scholarships. They also meet leaders like Pulido, who come to share their stories of struggle and success and inspire them to accomplish their leadership goals.

Pulido said he decided to come to St. Thomas University because he wanted to study somewhere he’d be more than just a number and where leadership was a priority. “Immediately, I felt at home,” Pulido said about STU.

At STU he found “more than an outstanding education.” Pulido is married to his college sweetheart, Carol Rodriguez, class of ‘94, and they have two children, Amanda and Jason.
