Another county wants to expanding gambling by allowing slots

Following in the footsteps of nearby Gadsden County, Washington County, just north of Panama City, wants to allow voters to decide in January whether to approve slots at the Ebro Greyhound Race Track, according to the Panama City News Herald via the News Service of Florida. Dog and horse race tracks throughout the state are citing a 2009 state law giving them the legal authority to authorize slots. A pending decision by the Florida Supreme Court over whether to take up this issue could throw the legality of offering slots outside Broward and Miami-Dade counties into question. Meanwhile, a track owner in Lee County also wants to have slots, the Naples Daily News says, though there is no referendum on the ballot yet.
