With a Thursday deadline for applications to be on the board of trustees for Florida Polytechnic University approaching, a trickle of applications for the positions to be filled by the Florida Board of Governors has turned into a flood, reports the News Service of Florida. As of the close of business Wednesday, 24 would-be trustees had applied for the five spots that the Board of Governors will fill, according to a spokeswoman for the board. That number is up from four a week ago. The applicants include Trudy Block, a Polk city councilor; Robert Gardner, an instructor at the University of South Florida’s Lakeland campus, which will become FPU; and Richard Hallion Jr., a research associate at the National Air and Space Museum at the Smithsonian Institution.
