As he eyes Senate President bid, Andy Gardiner loses straw poll in his backyard

Straw polls being what they are – a sampling of a very, very, infinitesimally small number of ideologically extreme political aficionados – it’s worth noting that over the weekend State Senator Andy Gardiner lost a straw ballot to Ron Rushing.

Rushing took 119 votes in the straw poll held at the ‘A Conservative Roar‘ event; Gardiner, who represents parts of Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties, took 51 votes, notes conservative blogger Kevin Derby.

“I am humbled and encouraged that our message to return principle back into politics is currently resonating with the people that believe in common-sense, conservative ideals,” Rushing said. “If we are going to restore our government we must get back to principles.”

Having long ago announced his intentions to seek the Senate Presidency for the 2015-16 sessions, Sen. Gardiner may want to pay a little more attention to his own backyard rather than worry about climbing the political ladder in Tallahassee.
