His last minute veto of the alimony reform bill was a mistake – he apparently was led to believe that the bill was anti-woman (a position promoted by the uber-liberal NOW and League of Women Voters) and that a veto would somehow endear him to these groups – ended up alienating him to hundreds of thousands of Floridians.

The bill was opposed by the attorney lobby and the radical left wing of the Democratic party – the very groups that will be financially supporting his eventual opponents in 2014. And that’s unfortunate.

Governor Scott will have an opportunity for a “do-over” next session when a less aggressive bill will be passed and presented to him for signature. Hopefully he will do the right thing and sign this important legislation.

Alimony Reform remains a gender-neutral bi-partisan issue that impacts Florida’s families. We sincerely appreciate the support of all the legislators and the thousands of volunteers in 2013, and we look forward to the Governor signing the bill next Spring.
