The governor and Cabinet on Tuesday reconfirmed State Board of Administration Executive Director Ash Williams, who oversees the state’s $120 billion retirement fund and other investments, reports the News Service of Florida. Reflecting tough financial times, the FRS has gone from a surplus in 2007-08 to being 87.9 percent funded. Williams has faced criticism from some circles for a perceived lack of transparency in the agency, but Williams said Tuesday that the board’s affirmation is a reflection that it has confidence in the way the agency balances the need for public oversight and it fiduciary obligations to maintain the state’s retirement system and other investments.
