Associated Industries endorses Marco Rubio

Frankly, this is about as surprising as the ending to a bad movie:

Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) today announced its endorsement of former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, Republican candidate for United States Senate.  A member of the Florida Legislature from 2000-2008, Rubio continues to oppose anti-business legislation including the federal Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), known as card check legislation, that would hinder the freedom of employees, and cap-and-trade policies, which would have severe consequences on the state’s businesses by significantly increasing energy costs. With a national debt in the trillions, Rubio has vowed to fight irresponsible government spending.  He also strongly supports Florida’s space program and will work to ensure our state has a robust commercial space industry.

“Receiving AIF’s support is a tremendous honor and I plan to bring my fiscally conservative views to Washington.  During my tenure in the Florida House, I supported sound economic policies on behalf of Floridians.  In the U.S. Senate, I will continue to champion policies that will keep taxes low, promote free market principles, and fight government-imposed mandates on businesses,” said Rubio. “Our federal budget is replete with wasteful spending, and rather than imposing additional taxes on businesses struggling to pay daily expenses, we need to remove needless spending from our budget.  Our business community is vital to sustaining our economy and I pledge to advocate for their best interests while in Congress.”

AIF’s endorsements provide important voting-record information and voting recommendations to the association’s 10,000 business members.  Every summer, AIF issues its annual Voting Records Report, a comprehensive report of Florida House and Senate member votes on issues and legislation impacting Florida’s business community.  The report is based on lawmakers’ votes on legislation affecting businesses, employers, and consumers in relation to AIF’s legislative priorities for the year.  Rubio has a historical AIF voting record of 95 percent.

“Rubio was an exceptional Speaker and he certainly understands the needs of Florida’s businesses.  As an experienced lawmaker, he will be a reliable vote for the free enterprise system and fight for policies that will produce jobs and contribute to economic growth,” said Barney Bishop III, president and CEO of AIF.  “A true fiscal conservative, Marco will curb the current Administration’s out-of-control spending policies that have not produced the promised results, like new job creation. He clearly understands that we cannot tax our way to prosperity and will bring much-needed fiscal discipline to Washington. His powerful voice is what we need in Congress and AIF is proud to support his bid to U.S. Senate.”
